Seville

From WholeEarthGuide.com in Seville, Spain

The only problem with Seville is that there is simply too much to see and far, far too much to write about too.

Perhaps the cathedral is the best place to start as it was one of the first things built after the peninsula was taken back from the Arab occupation and was constructed on the remains of the mosque. It's one of the largest of the medieval gothic cathedrals and many religious festivals centre on the cathedral area of which that around Easter (Semana Santa) and the Seville Fair in April are merely the highest peaks of many throughout the year.

Just facing the cathedral is the Alcázar developed from the former Moorish palace and which was constructed over a period of some 500 years. Naturally, the style changed a little over that period.

There are untold numbers of gardens and museums around the city.

As the city is both well to the south and well inland, it can be extremely hot in the Summer. If you can, it's best to avoid that period altogether.

The nearest airport is Seville (SVQ) served by discount airlines (Ryanair, Clickair, Air Berlin, etc.).

The city is well connected to the Spanish rail network.
