Dijon

From WholeEarthGuide.com in Cote d'Or, France

You'll know of Dijon from the mustard but this there's a great deal more to see than mustard in this burgundy town.

The many museums include Le Cassissium (blackcurrants), Musée de l'Electricité, Musée des Traditions des Hautes-Côtes (folklore), Musée de la Vie Bourguignonne (rural culture, free), Musée d'Art Sacré (free), Musée des Beaux Arts (in the Ducal Palace), Musée Archéologique (free), L' imaginarium Louis Bouillot, Jardin des Sciences - Jardin Botanique, Museum, Planetarium, Musée du Cerf-volant (kites), Maison du Patrimoine et du Tourisme and Galerie de Quilles (skittles). This is merely a selection among many of the museums in Dijon (yes, there's even one dedicated to mustard).

In terms of architecture there are the cathedrals of St. Bénigne, Notre-Dame, St. Étienne, and St. Michel. It includes many undamaged half-timbered houses from the 12th century. The Musée des Beaux Arts is in the Ducal Palace (in the photo).

The nearest airport is Dijon (DIJ) but that's not really a workable airport at the moment and your best bet is Lyon (LYS).

There's a TGV service to Dijon from Paris and Lyon.
